Looking for a digital piano that takes up little space and can be moved when needed - the Yamaha P-Series is almost the obvious place to start. The Yamaha P-225 is the middle of three models: the P-145 as the entry point, the P-225 in the middle, the P-525 as the premium portable.
All three are slim digital pianos: 88 weighted keys, built-in speakers, no fixed stand. The difference lies in the keyboard, the sound and the number of voices. This article places all three so you can pick the right model for your space, budget and playing level.
01What defines the P-Series
Portable, in Yamaha terms, means a slim body around 130 cm wide, no bolted-on cabinet, built-in speakers and a weight one person can carry. You set the instrument on an X-stand or a matching base, play through headphones or the internal speakers, and put it away when you need to.
That sets the P-Series apart from a classic home digital piano (such as the Yamaha Arius or Clavinova lines), which sits fixed inside a wooden cabinet. If you have little space, move occasionally, or want to take the instrument along to practise, a portable model is usually the better fit. You will find all three P models in our Stage Pianos.
02P-145, P-225 and P-525: the three tiers
The Yamaha Stagepiano P-145 BT - Bluetooth is the entry point. It uses the GHC keyboard (Graded Hammer Compact) - a compact weighted action with the heavier touch toward the bass that you get on a grand. The voice selection is deliberately lean, with the focus on a good concert-grand tone and simple operation. A solid first instrument for learners.
The Yamaha Stagepiano P-225 builds on the same GHC keyboard but widens the sound palette considerably and offers a more refined speaker tuning. It is the natural choice if you want more sonic variety and a little more headroom without stepping up to the premium class.
The Yamaha Stage Piano P525 is the premium portable: a GrandTouch-S keyboard with wooden white keys and synthetic ivory/ebony key tops, a higher-grade speaker system and the largest voice selection in the series. For demanding players who want a grand-like feel in a transportable body.

04Which model suits whom
Little space, a beginner, a small budget: the P-145. It plays honestly and weighted, without overwhelming you. If you are starting piano lessons, it gives you a complete foundation.
You have been playing for a while, you want more sounds and a fuller output, but no premium budget: the P-225 is the middle ground and, for most people, the balanced recommendation.
You want a grand-like feel and occasionally take the instrument to a stage or rehearsal room: the P-525, with its GrandTouch-S wooden keyboard, is the premium answer.
If you really do transport the instrument, a fitted bag is worth it - the Soundwear E-Piano/Keyboard Tasche passend für z.B. Yamaha P 145/P225 oder Roland FP10/FP30X is cut to the dimensions of the P-145 and P-225. An X-stand or double stand and a pedal are available among the accessories too.
The Yamaha P-Series covers the portable digital piano need in three clear tiers: the P-145 for getting started, the P-225 as the balanced middle, and the P-525 as the premium portable. What matters is how much sound variety and which key feel you need - and whether you transport the instrument.
